This Little-Known Island in Florida is a Haven for the Wealthy, But There are Public Beaches, Dining, and Shopping

The area in south Florida that surrounds Palm Beach is known to be a playground for the wealthy. The area is dotted with multi-million dollar homes, with a median home price of around 1.8 million dollars in 2021. (And often the homes are only occupied in the winter, as people escape the colder states in the winter and go north in the summer.)

With access to the Atlantic Ocean and Intercoastal Waterway, the Palm Beach area is a haven for those who enjoy the water and beaches. But you don’t always need to be wealthy to enjoy some quiet beach time there.

The population of Palm Beach is a relatively small 9,200, but you if you’re looking to be near Palm Beach but enjoy a more isolated visit, you could head to one of the area’s islands. And although the island I’m going to talk about is also a haven for the well-off, there are ways to enjoy it without spending very much money.

What’s So Special About Singer Island?: If I had to give one word that describes the magic of Singer Island, it would be quiet. Sure, there are things to do if you want to be active. Yes, there are some condos, but they are often gated residences and rentals, which ensure isolation and privacy.

This means you won’t likely encounter loads of people here, but you can access some of its lovely beaches via a state park, as follows.

John D. MacArthur Beach State Park: This state property, on Singer Island, offers reefs, forests, lagoons, and two miles of pristine public beaches. There are beautiful nature trails, and you can canoe or kayak on Lake Worth Lagoon.

For the low cost of $5 per vehicle, you’ll have access to Singer Island beaches and gorgeous natural surroundings. The address of the park is 10900 Jack Nicklaus Drive in North Palm Beach. It’s always a good idea to check with the park before you visit to make sure all amenities are open.

Here’s a video from The Palm Beaches that showcases the park.

Ocean Reef Park: Another option for a public beach is Ocean Reef Park, which you can find at 3860 North Ocean Drive. It’s almost 13 acres and has picnic areas, a playground, and outdoor showers. You can find it at 3860 North Ocean Boulevard in nearby Riviera Beach.

The Beach and Shopping / Dining Combined: If you feel like eating or shopping while enjoying the beach, a nice option is Municipal Beach, which is right behind the Ocean Mall, which offers shops and restaurants. You will have to pay for parking, but this option is quite convenient. The address here is 2511 Ocean Drive in nearby Riviera Beach.

Try Lunch or Dinner at Sailfish Marina and Resort: Sailfish Marina is just across the bridge from Singer Island. The Marina offers fun boat tours and the Sailfish Marina and Resort can also be found here, which can be a great place for lunch or dinner if you’ve made a day of Singer Island.

You can eat with a great view of the water, and the resort is known for its fantastic seafood. You can watch the boats go by at the marina. The address is 98 Lake Drive in Palm Beach Shores.
