How to Make the Most of Singer Island Beach

Singer Island, FL has some of the best beaches in the area, and in addition to the natural beauty of the sand and shore, there are outstanding programs designed to get the most out of these local resources.

John D. MacArthur Beach State Park has nearly two miles of pristine Singer Island beach. But exploring Singer Island beach and swimming in the clear blue waters of the Atlantic is only the beginning of the fun you can have at the Park. With an extensive calendar of events you can immerse yourself in nature, and get a taste of the “Real Florida.” Scheduled activities include daily nature walks, plus special birding and butterfly walks led by naturalists who have expert eye for pointing out the more than 150 species of birds and 2,600 species of moths and butterflies who make their home in the Park.

Aspiring artists of all ages will enjoy the Park’s “Art in Nature” program that includes instruction on landscape painting with a touch of whimsy, plus special family classes that allow children to let loose their imagination and creativity. For fun in the water, there are learn to kayak classes, guided snorkeling adventures and tours by kayak through the estuary, a small cove off the northern portion of Lake Worth. As you glide along the water, you can see some of the inhabitants, including oysters, fiddler crabs, mullet, checkered puffers and manatees.

The State Park also has a regular concert series that includes both Sunday afternoon Bluegrass music and Saturday night MacArthur Under Moonlight, which features an eclectic variety of local musicians.

The Park, which is just a short drive away from many Palm Beach oceanfront condos, also has a comprehensive offering of children’s summer day camps for all ages. The Little Turtle Camp is designed for children 7–8 years old, featuring games, crafts and stories with an environmental theme. The Junior Ranger Camp is for 9–10-year-olds, who will spend their camp days exploring the Park’s beach, maritime hammock and rock reef. The Marine Biology Camp offers 11 through 13 year-old children a rare opportunity to learn about the marine environment of the Park through snorkeling, beach exploration and mudflat walking.

In addition to the 325-acre John D. MacArthur Beach State Park, Singer Island also has Phil Foster Park, which is named after one of Riviera Beach's pioneer citizens. A great destination for families with young children, Phil Foster Park has playgrounds, picnic areas and concessions. It’s also easy to enjoy a day of boating from this Park, which has a 24-hour boat ramp, plus boating tours available.
